The wonders of the Internet and mobile phones make working at home far easier than in the past. Commuting , long hours and wasted time at the endless round of meetings can become a nostalgic memory.
However, working at home requires discipline. Images of watching day-time TV or pottering around the garden must be put aside. Self-employed people must keep focused on setting up the business and sticking to deadlines.

Remember, you have not said goodbye to the boss. Your customers become your new boss with similar whims and demands.

Essential tips for working successfully at home are:

Don’t become self-employed unless you are prepared to be very organised. Whether keeping records or chasing debts, the burden is on you to succeed. If you don’t do these things, your competitors will!

Get proper office space where you can work undisturbed. Avoid the living room.

Buy a good quality PC and printer. This will ensure good presentation and save on reliability.

Have good quality stationery, business cards and other branded material. You will be judged on them.

A good chair and proper lighting will prevent back and eye problems.

Tax assessment is often best left to a good accountant, especially for the newly self-employed. It will often save tax too.

And finally, don’t neglect insurance and pension provision. Remember the reason you choose self-employment was to enhance your quality of life – not to create a retirement nightmare in the future.

How do you distinquish between the genuine and the con men? Here are a few points to keep in mind when assessing any opportunity.

1 ) How do you recognise a Scam?

Usually a scam offers a lot of money in a short space of time for a small fee. You must must pay something to make hundreds of thousands. The job that you will be offered will be easy, not requiring any previous internet experience and it will require a maximum of only two hours work a day.

You will be given descriptions of the glamorous lifestyle you will lead in a short time. Exotic foreign holidays will be yours , and expensive cars, a bigger house, and a permanent end to the hated day job.

This income will be achieved usually through recruiting other unsuspecting people into the program as your sub- affiliates , who will generate passive income for you.

2) Are there any genuine Internet jobs?

Nobody wants an employee by their computer in another part of the world performing routine tasks such as placing advertisements, typing etc. when you can get someone who is local just as offline businesses do.

Genuine jobs can be applied for on the internet in the usual way through filling out application forms, sending off c.v.'s/resumes. These jobs are usually offline.

3)What can you do if you are scammed?

Usually nothing. Scammers are clever. They demand fees which are not big - usually less than $100. In this way they do not attract the attention of the Police who have more urgent crimes to deal with. However, bigger scams are stopped by the Police when large sums of money are involved.

4)What can you do to avoid Internet Scams?

Be careful. Anyone can have a website under a false name and false postal address. Anybody can start an internet business for a short time and swindle money. Then disappear only to open up again under another name on another website.

What characterises a genuine website?

A genuine website does not offer money for nothing. It has a clear contact address There are products or services for sale.

Ever tell something to Aunt Mabel? She's the one who, no matter what you tell her, everyone else knows about it before you've had time to get home. She's like the main entrance to the universal grapevine.

That's what a Blog is like (except a Blog is intentional and desired).

Blog is short for Weblog. Say you're going on a trip to New Zealand and normally you'd keep a journal to record the day's events. But Aunt Mabel isn't coming with you, so how can you quickly and easily keep everyone in the loop?

Simple. Use a Blog. How does it work?

* You go to your website (or some other website that's equipped for generating a Blog)

* You set up a new Blog (e.g., "My Trip To New Zealand").

* You create a new entry (e.g., "Day 1 - Heading to the Airport") and type whatever you want into a webpage form. This is your chance to philosophize, or rant or rave, or just give the facts. Whatever you want.

* When you're done your entry, you submit the form and instantly your Blog entry is on the Internet where anyone who knows where it is can read it.

* Then the next day, or whenever you want, you create another entry, and another, and another. They just line up one after the other, with the most recent entry at the top (just like Aunt Mabel who always has the most recent news on the tip of her tongue).

So a Blog is a quick and easy way to get your info out to everyone.

The trouble with good quality content is the time it takes to produce it. Content takes time to write and many of us find it difficult to even start writing our own content for sites and e-zines. Luckily it is possible to use other peoples content for your site or newsletter, and they will be happy to give you the right to use it freely, or sell you it at a knockdown price.

Finding quality content can be as easy as going to one of the many article directories where people submit their articles for others to use. The drawbacks of this kind of content is that the author usually requires a link back to their site or newsletter, and as they are easy to get the content may be used by many other websites and ezines.

If you feel you can make use of these articles, then search for your desired subject by keywords at the article directories such as www.dir.com or http://www.debsarticlesite.com Remember to check the terms before you use an article but most can be used as long as the authors resource box remains intact, and kept with the article content.

Using the content from article directories or other sources above, you can make a themed website around a subject, add the Adsense code and upload and submit the site to search engines. These are just a few of the ways quality content could be used to make a profit. Using these as a starting point, you should be able to use content in many other profitable ways. Easy Tips To Avoid Google Click Fraud

Many web site owners are getting their Google Adsense account terminated. I read on the forums almost daily posts from people who are bemoaning the fact that Google has terminated their account when they feel they have done nothing wrong to deserve the punishment. In almost every case, click fraud is the reason for termination.

Click fraud is the act of clicking on ads for the purpose of costing the advertiser money. It is simply the same as paying out cash for false leads. Many website owners are aware of this fraud, and share the same sentiment that this is the one big problem that Adsense is facing.

How do you prevent yourself from being involved in this fraud?

The majority of web hosts offer access logs. If you are notified of click fraud and possible termination of your account by Google, it is necessary that you hand over these logs to them to clarify your situation. This allows them to look for any suspicious activity on your site. Problems like this are very serious and giving it to them is a show of good faith that you want to help Google in any way you can to attempt to solve the problem.

It can also help if you have a click monitoring software. There are many good programs available, but it is important that you get a program that has no limitations. there are free programs available, but I would suggest that you get a script from a certified expert in this field. I highly recommend using William Bontrager's script, available at http://bontragercgi.com/programs/clickwatch. Mr Bontrager will install this script on one site for you after the purchase of the software, and will show you how to add the script to other sites. Free scripts are also available on the Internet if you are limited in funds. Remember, you get what you pay for. As usual, all the information you will receive from your tracking software should be turned over to Google. This is showing Google that you too are fighting against click frauds and is in no way a part of it.

Study your server logs and watch for any activity that seems suspicious. Report anything that you may find odd, may it big or small thing. Look for large spikes in traffic, and suspicious activity in files and folders where people would not normally have access to. Remember, that when working on your site, that you will access these files and folders. It is suggested you track these by noting the time of activity. A little work on your part will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

You may want to consider disabling ads for your own IP address and local geographic area. This will certainly prevent accidents and will not make Google mistake another user as you. You can do through the htaccess file on your web site. the process is too detailed to go into further here, but if you do a search on the engines to learn ways to access and disable portions of this log, a lot of information is readily available. By doing this, and showing Google that you have done so, you protect yourself against any possible threat from Google.

Keep your Adsense off on pop ups and pop unders. Your ads should not be displayed on content sites that promote illegal activity or tampering of the legal rights of other people or business. Included in this are the content that is considered adult or gambling in nature, or promote firearms, tobacco, or drugs of any kind. If you think that you may be breaking this rule, immediately remove your content or Adsense from the web page.

Be truthful and confess up to Google about times when you might have clicked on your own ads, whether accidentally or intentionally. Be honest about anything that you may have done that is wrong. Confessing is way better than Google learning about it eventually. It would mean eventual termination and no getting back what you have worked so hard for.

Do not tell your family or friends about Adsense on your website. Chances are they may start clicking on them to help you make money without you knowing it. They may be doing more harm to you than help by trying it in the first place.

Most pay per click networks have different measures in hand to protect website owners against click frauds. Other search engines can track more than 50 data points, IP address, browser’s information, user’s session info and pattern recognition. They also have “systems” available that detects fraud, not to mention the specialized teams monitoring how things are going and helping advertisers stop click frauds. Google has some of the best brains in the business, and it does no one any good to try to "fool" them. In addition to the algorithms that Google has in place, they also employ regular people to surf the net to find illegal sites.

Google offers suggestion on how to avoid click fraud. Using “negative keywords” can be used to keep your Adsense showing on products and services that are in no way related to yours. Add tracking URLs to your links so you can track the traffic coming from Google.

Don't be caught in the Google click fraud. The opportunity to make a very decent income is readily available if you use common sense, do not try to cheat Google, and follow their Terms of Service. If you do these things, maybe some day you too can be a member of the FedEx Club!

Web Traffic For Adsense: A Primer, Pt. 1

I was reading through some posts on other websites the other day. There was a hot topic about how to get traffic to your site, and I thought I'd share some of the things that people said, beacuse I've done it for my sites, and noticed that this particular course of action worked for me as well.

There are so many different so-called "easy" ways to get traffic, that it's pretty ridiculous. All you have to do is type the word "web traffic" into Google, and you'll get a host of different programs, websites, ebooks, etc, telling you how to do it. You'll get bombared with ads for PPC, banners, link exchanges, FFAs, newsgroups, etc.

And the thing about it is this: Most of them do not work. Let me repeat that in big letters to override that 36-point type you read on that web page that says, "We'll Get You Traffic In 24 Hours, Guaranteed" along with the testimonials that were probably made up: THEY DO NOT WORK!!!

So you ask: what does work? How can I get traffic to my site?

If you haven't read my first two articles on content, you can read them at my new blog here at axalda.info/blog. Excuse the mess in the blog though, because it's a work in progress.

But outside of content, we're going to take a minute, and talk about promotion. What do you have to do to get consistent traffic coming to your site?

I'm going to break this up into a multi-part series. I know that I have another series that I'm putting together as well on Adsense sites in general. I promise, that's still coming as well. But for now, let's talk traffic...

I am assuming that you've picked a Adsense topic already. If not, I offer a free Adsense keyword list, updated every 2 weeks. To get it free, go to www.axalda.info/topkeywords.html and check out the 500 Top keywords, absolutely free. It'll give you an idea about what's hot and what's not.

1. Get a good domain name for your site.

Your site should have your Adsense keyowrd in the site. It will give it relevance, and give your site credibility if it's found VIA a search engine. Is it important? If you can get a domain name that reflects the keyword, you should try to get it, but if you can't, it will probably only hurt you in search engine relevance in the future steps of your promotional traffic plan, as you'll see later.

2. Blog it, baby!

You got content? Then you need to blog it (for the time being). I recommend WordPress to do your blog. It seems to be the favorite of people in the blogging community.

Now the thing about blogging your content is this, and WordPress makes this especially handy. You need to ley others know you have new content in your blog. And WordPress does that automatically (for the most part) everytime I write a new blog entry. It does what is called a "ping". A ping is a prompt sent to other websites that tracks the updates of blogs. There are about 50 blog ping sites that are worth adding to your blog ping list in WordPress (or whatever blog software you are using).

The reason why you are seting up a blog is to let others know about your content. You goal is to post new content at least 2-3 times a week. Do that consistently for the next 9-10 weeks, and watch your traffic start to jump! It's work, but it's worth it, and it gives you and your site credibility for now, and for the future.

Top Paying Keywords: How To Increase Your Pay Per Click Returns

There is no doubting the success of Google's Adsense program. Even Yahoo! and Kanoodle have joined in on the game, offering to join publishers with advertisers. Given the right circumstances, its a win / win situation for both.

There have been many sites that promote Top Paying Keywords and how if you add these keywords you can instantly improve your Adsense revenue. However, if you really want to see a dramatic increase in pay per clicks, you need to ensure 2 very important areas are addressed. They seem very obvious, but many site owners miss the opportunity to attract higher paying ads simply because they ignore these two areas.

Optimization

Many "would be" web designers decide to build a site around the highest paying keywords, yet, forget to optimize their site around a specific keyword. Instead, they forget the basics of how to properly create a title tag, page description, keyword density and having clean search engine spider friendly code.

Remember, its the source code that the Adsense and Kanoodle programs are using to decide what ads will appear. If your top 2 keywords are "insurance" and "downloads", you may find that you end up with ads regarding "insurance downloads" which of course will not pay much.

Also, having a high keyword density score for the keyword can get you into trouble with the search engines (specifically Google). Keywords spamming is never a good idea.

Optimize your page and you will search more hits to that page and not confuse the bots that create the ads for you.

Content

This is by far the most important and most missed tips. If you are going to include top paying keywords on your site, remember, if you want to attract high paying ads, you need to be selling your visitor on what your advertiser wants. Your content should sell to the visitors needs. Why should your visitor consider car insurance? What are the benefits of car insurance? Where can they get the best quotes? If you pique the interest of your visitor, they are more likely to click on your ads than if they feel that they are not getting the information they came to your site for in the first place.

Your content should have a specific flow to it. If you start jamming keywords into your content, your visitor will automatically suspect that you are trying to deceive them. Once you do that, they are gone! Why waste your visitors time after working so hard to get them to your site in the first place?

Well optimized, focused content will always produce better, higher paying ads. That is why you are a publisher: you want those high paying ads on your site. What use though are those high paying keywords if your content doesn't pique your visitors curiosity? Be passionate about your content, and the click through rates will skyrocket!

Its also important to make sure that you are using the right number of ads per page, but that is for another article!

Step-By-Step How Anyone Can Make Money With Adsense

There are heaps of ebooks and membership sites on the online teaching you how to make money with Adsense websites. With so much information, you’ll be overloaded. Well I’ve read them, joined them and know what works and what does not. Here’s my advice.

Adsense is a Google advertising tool that is placed on your website. The ads that are shown on the website are determined by your content – the text on your website.

If you have pages and pages of articles on a certain topic, such as “Internet Marketing” then the ads shown will be all be related to that topic.

Your webpages should contain keyword related to internet marketing such as “email marketing”, “Adsense”, “ebooks”, “web traffic”, “affiliate programs” etc…

Therefore the visitor on your website will likely click on the ads since they have an interest in them. Otherwise they wouldn’t be reading your article in the first place.

So the most important thing you need for a good website that generates automatic income using Adsense is “Content”. Where do you get this content? There are three ways:

- Write the content yourself

- Pay someone to write the content (about $5 per article, the cheapest rate currently)

- Buy Public Label Resale (PLR) articles and alter the content

The easiest way is the last option – Buy PLR articles and change the words yourself.

With PLR articles you can do whatever you want with the article and even add your name to it so that you’re the author. There are many places on the internet where you can buy these articles. They are normally sold in a batch of 10 or more that are related to a certain topic.

You can even purchase websites with PLR articles in them and have an Adsense website online right away. Again there are many places to buy these Adsense websites on particular niches.

Now the following advice is worth gold so please read carefully.

You can’t just buy ready made websites with PLR articles and put in on the web. You’ll have so many competitors with the exact same site and the search engines will ban you for having duplicate content. You’ll have no search engine traffic and you can forget about people clicking on your website.

What you have to do is alter the PLR articles. My recommendation is to alter them by 50% to be on the safe side. I alter all my PLR articles 50% before placing them on my website. This makes them original and therefore more valuable. Search engines will index all of your pages so your website will be listed under several keywords depending on the content.

The next thing you need is a good design for your website that will contain all your own articles with other people’s articles mixed. For the website, you can either design it yourself or buy a template.

A word of warning. Make sure the design makes the Adsense ads stand out on your website and also blend in with the background. Maybe you’ve been wondering how to go about setting up a niche web site. Well, here’s a quick little article that will show you how to create your very own affiliate web site. Step 1. Pick a Niche Subject

This may be the hardest part of your web site project. There’s literally tons of subjects to choose from. People are interested in a variety of things – from parrots to pilots. You don’t have to necessarily pick something you’re interested in, but it helps.

You’re more likely to do a better job at building your site when you have some interest in the subject matter. It’s like taking a high school or college class. Some subjects are more interesting than others.

Make sure you choose something that a reasonable amount of people are actually searching for online and want to find out more information about.

Step 2. Do Keyword Research

I’d rather lose some creative freedom and attract visitors to my site, than have a lot of flowery prose that zero people will see. You MUST include targeted keywords in your web site copy. Also, make sure you use your targeted keywords in the upper third portion of your web site pages. This is also called optimizing your web site for the search engines. I use BuyDomains (http://www.buydomains.com). They are not the cheapest, but I stick with them because I like their easy interface and good customer service. Nameboy (http://www.nameboy.com) is also good.

Step 4. Write Keyword Rich Content

This may be a hard step for those of you who don’t consider yourselves writers. But, writing web site copy is not as hard as it seems. Just think of it as having a conversation with a friend about a product or service you’re really enthusiastic about.

Don’t think you can extol the benefits of your subject? Tune your TV into QVC or one of the other shopping networks to see how they can spend several minutes talking about the benefits of all kinds of mundane products. This is what you’ll be doing for your web site.

Your copy should feature a good balance of friendliness and professionalism. Remember, you’re passing along useful information to your visitor. Put yourself in their shoes. What would you want to know about xyz subject if you were them? Now, write that down. Don’t forget to sprinkle targeted keywords throughout your copy. I print out a list of them to use for my sites.

Step 5. Build Your Web Site

You have a lot of creative freedom on how you want your site to look (I prefer black copy on white backgrounds with photos), but remember that people are looking for attractive, easy-to-navigate sites with useful information.

Step 6. Sign Up for Matching Affiliate Programs

You’ve created a web site about xyz subject. Now look for affiliate vendors who perfectly match the theme of your site. Integrate your affiliates attractively into your web site copy. Don’t confuse your visitors by giving them too many choices.

If you want to list a lot of affiliates on the same page, you can create a helpful “resource guide” page.

Step 7. Include Google Adsense Ads

Google has a great program for web site owners who wish to make a little extra money for simply displaying google ads on their web site. It’s easy to sign up and free. Just visit google (http://www.google.com/ads) and sign up for their Adsense program. They’ll give you some html code to copy and paste on your site.

While google decides which ads will actually appear on your site, you can decide how the google ads will look – choose colors, borders, etc. and where to put them on your pages.

Step 8. Find Link Partners

I found out that exchanging links with other web site owners is a MUST if you want to improve your search engine rankings. Google especially will consider your site more relevant if your site has other sites linking to it. Also the ad copy from other sites, if relevant, can add more valuable keyword content to your own site.

Step 9. Write Articles to Promote Your Site

Oh oh. Here’s that writing thing again. Well, you better get used to it, because writing articles like this one (normally your articles will be about the subject matter of your web site) will help give your affiliate web site much needed exposure. It doesn’t matter if you write them yourself or hire others (ghostwriters) to write them for you.

You’ll find that the best Internet marketers all write articles to promote themselves, their newsletters, and products and services. Remember, there’s a reason the Internet is called the “information” super highway.

After writing your articles, you can post them to article submission sites, which you can find by typing “article submission” in Google. People can easily find your articles to use as free content for their sites.

Almost everyone has probably heard of AdSense by now, if not then I am pretty sure you have seen AdSense and may have not even known what it was. To explain AdSense, I must first tell you a little about ' AdWords ', Adwords is a Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising system that is available through Google the search engine. You create a small text ad, which is placed on Google's search result pages, the ads match your websites subject or content. You bid or set a fee that you are willing to pay Google every time someone clicks on your ad, this is a great way to get highly targeted traffic that can turn into sales, subscribers, or whatever you are trying to achieve with your website traffic.

Now that I have explained Adwords, I can now tell you about AdSense. AdSense makes it possible for website owners to earn money by simply letting Google place ads on their web pages. AdSense ads can be either text or images, the ads can be altered to blend into the webpages, so they don't make your site look junky or poorly designed. AdSense ads are highly relevant to the content of most webpages, for instance if you place AdSense ads on a webpage that sells Coins, you will get ads about selling coins or other coin related subjects. Every time a website visitor clicks on one of the AdSense ads on your webpage, you earn money, and every month after your first balance reaches one hundred dollars, Google will send you a check or you can have the money deposited into your checking account. The AdSense program is a great way to earn extra money if you have a website, it's easy to make a few dollars every day, and some folks are making thousands of dollars per month doing it.

When I first started Adsense, I placed the ads on my webpages and it wasn't very long until I had made a small amount of money, a few days later my account balance had grown even more. I was pretty happy, but I thought to myself, after reading a lot of articles, I am not making nearly as much money as others are making with AdSense, something must be wrong. Then I thought, maybe my website doesn't get the traffic that the others are getting ? I chatted with a lot of people on the internet that were in the program, and I discovered that the amount of visitors I get, was higher than some of the traffic they receive. You may think that 200 - 400 unique visitors a day is low for website traffic, you are very wrong, the average website gets a lot less per day, especially if your website is only a few months old or is not optimized for the search engines, or it's subject matter has a very low search demand.

If my website was getting a nice amount of traffic or visitors, why was my AdSense earnings so low ? The first thing that I discovered that was wrong was ' adsense ad placement ', that's right, you have to study each webpage's layout that you plan on placing the ads on. Wherever your webpage has sections or areas that grab and hold the visitors attention, this is a prime area to place a section of AdSense ads, in other words, place the ads on your webpages where folks will notice them. We are currently allowed to place up to 3 different AdSense ad sections or groups on each webpage. I found after some testing that the best places for my ads are, just under the title or sub-title, near the middle of the page, and near the end or bottom of my page. If you place one section of AdSense ads near the top of your webpage, folks entering your site will probably notice the ads, and if they scroll down a ways and theres more ads, that increases the odds that they will notice them also. Probably the best place to place one section of ads is at the bottom of your webpages, right after your last bit of text or interesting reading, but make sure you place the ads before any other links, because when visitors are ready to leave your site, they may leave by clicking on one of your ads, earning you money, and if you have other links showing before your ads, they may leave your site by clicking on one of them. So after I studied the layout of all my webpages, I went back through and repositioned the AdSense ads, almost immediately I noticed my earnings increased.

I left my webpages alone, and about three months later I received my first check in the mail, it wasn't a lot of money but still for really doing no physical work I was very glad to get it. My earnings slowly started getting better and better after that first check, the next month I received another check, then the following month I got another and so on. After having been in the AdSense program for about 8 months, and chatting with more folks who were also in the program I found that my earnings were still low compared to some other people.

I then discovered another method that increased my earnings even more. I noticed that my ads stood out from the rest of my webpages text and content. I had always thought, I should make my ads a different color than my webpages background so folks would notice my ads, and click on them, I was totally wrong. Almost everyone that has been on the internet for any length of time, has become so accustomed to seeing banners and other flashy ads that almost everyone now has what is called 'ad blindness', that is, when they visit a site they are automatically turned off or they ignore anything that looks like an ad. I used the Adsense editor and I changed my ads background and border colors so they matched the background color of my webpages, and I changed the text color of the ads so they matched the text color of my webpages content. The ads blended in very well, to me they were barely noticeable from the rest of my webpage, but right away the number of clicks on the ads increased, and the earnings went up even more.

I left my webpages alone and for another couple months my earnings stayed about the same, I was content with the results, but my earnings were still not as good as some of the other folks who received roughly the same amount of traffic that I did. Then I found out that they had done something else to their AdSense ads, something that made the ads seem to really get peoples attention, they were placing images near the ads, it seemed adding images made the ads look unique and it helped make the amount of clicks on them rise. So I searched the internet and I found some little icons and images that matched the content of my webpages, and near where the Adsense ads were shown, I displayed the images by adding a simple html image tag. I asked google if adding the images was within the AdSense rules, and I was advised that they were fine as long as they didn't make folks click on the ads, by this I mean, you cannot have a flashing sign that says, ' click these ads ', or you shouldn't have a scantily dressed girl pointing to the ads saying ' make me happy - click here ' or stuff like that, just make some nice little images that pertain to your webpages content.

The next couple months or so, my earnings still continued rising slowly. By this time, besides my regular webpages I had been working on several BLOG's pertaining to different subjects, so I thought I might as well place AdSense ads on all of my blogs also and make even more money. For a couple weeks my earnings went up quite a bit, and I was very happy, then all of a sudden, just like someone turning off a switch, my AdSense earnings plummeted. I was now making in a day, what I had made when I first joined the program, what the heck happened I thought to myself ? My traffic was still slowly rising, the number of clicks was rising, but for some strange reason, the earnings per click, (EPC) had dropped a lot, it was horrible.

Then I learned that Google had introduced a new feature or system into the AdSense program, called 'smart pricing', 'smart pricing' automatically adjusts the cost of an ad click. Using Googles system of analyzing AdSense data, if it shows that a click from one of your webpages is less likely to turn into an online sale, or other business result for the Ad publisher, the amount you earn per click in AdSense is greatly reduced. When 'smart pricing', was introduced, some AdSense users saw their EPC drop to as low as 3 cents a click, where before 'smart pricing', that same click might of earned them a dollar or much more, this was quite a drastic drop in earnings. What is horrible about 'smart pricing', besides the earnings loss to AdSense users, is that one site or webpage can trigger it, and once triggered by that one webpage, it effects your entire account and every webpage you have will now earn substantially less per click. Remember awhile back when I had added AdSense Ads to my BLOG's, that seemed to be what had triggered smart pricing for me. The BLOG's were on numerous subjects, but they were not business or real professional sites, so hardly any business results such as sales, occurred from folks clicking the ads on these sites. After I removed the Adsense ads from the BLOG's, it took about a week, then I noticed that the EPC was once again climbing back up, yes the 'smart pricing', spell had been broken.

If you are thinking about trying AdSense, or if you are already in it, beware of the smart pricing curse, or if it has already effected your earnings, try removing AdSense ads from your webpages a few pages at a time, the smart-pricing system is evaluated each week, so it will take a few days to see if you have removed ads from the page(s) that triggered it.

Kids in High School are making thousands of dollars a month with Adsense... Housewives, Retiree's, Mom and Pop's who've never made a dime on the Internet have created full time incomes by simply placing AdSense Ads on their web site or blog.

Then you have the "Super AdSense" earners. We have all heard of them... the Elite few who are on track to make half a million dollars a year or more promoting AdSense sites.

Do not be mistaken though... these people are not building like your Mom and Pop's do. They have systems in place that create sites for them... people who build sites for them... they have outsourced and automated many of the tedious tasks such as posting to blogs and searching for keywords.

While most people cannot emulate everything these Super AdSense earners do... many of them you can.

Here are 7 Required Steps you can implement today to copy their success.

1) Starting today... treat your AdSense business like it is a REAL business and track what you do.

Begin tracking what you are doing that works... as well as what you are doing that does not work. This will keep you from making the same mistakes over and over, and you can repeat the steps that have worked in the past. As simple as this step seems... most people do not know the reason(s) to their success or failure.

2) Utilize the latest tools and software available.

The Super AdSense earners are not any smarter than your average person. I know many people think they are... but for the most part, they are regular non techie people.

They are smarter in one respect though... they use the latest tools available to them to automate most of the tasks involved with researching and creating sites. They use the latest keyword, site creation and search engine optimization tools available. The tools they use are their secret weapons.

3) Quit chasing the Mega Dollar keywords.

You may get lucky every now and then... but in the long run, you are better off building sites for the low to mid range payout keywords. 5) KISS

Unless you are just building AdSense sites for the fun of it and to impress your friends... the purpose of having the site is to have people click on one of the ads, right? Then keep the site layout simple... dump the scrolling banners, dancing chickens and colored scroll bars... they are distractions.

6) What is the purpose of your web site?

Your web site cannot be everything to everybody. If you have a full fledged ecommerce site, with products for sale... links to other products, it is not a good site for AdSense. If the primary focus of the site is to sell products... let it do that.

Do not distract or confuse your visitor with to many options or choices. The best AdSense sites are AdSense only content sites that sell nothing. They are sites that "Tell"... not "Sell."

7) Be consistent.

This is not one of those deals where you build one site and you are done. Refer back to Step #4. You must continuously build in order to be successful.

Think of it as planting a crop that you will harvest in a month or two, and the sites you build are seeds. Once the seeds have grown and matured... you will reap the harvest. The more seeds you plant... the larger the harvest.

To sum it up... utilize the tools available to automate as much of the process of building sites - doing research and building keyword lists as you can. This alone will help keep you organized and on track. Be consistent in building... treat it like the business it is and you will reap the rewards of your harvest.

There are no guarantees in life, so I don’t guarantee that following these tips will bring you more money every time. However, I do guarantee that they will greatly increase your chances of pulling more of the top-paying AdSense ads to your site than if you don’t follow these suggestions.

Enough with the disclaimers, let’s get down to the business of making money. Google lets advertisers bid anywhere from a minimum of .05 per click right up to a whopping $100. It should be pretty obvious that you’re not going to get rich running .05 cent ads on your site, but getting a few $100 ads, or even some $10, $20, or $30 ads can’t be a bad thing, right?

Now the problem is, Google is pretty closed-mouthed about who is paying what for their ads, and there is no real way to determine which words pay the most per AdSense click.

But ah, far away in a parallel universe we find another Pay-Per-Click provider called Overture. It seems that Overture is less sensitive about releasing their top-priced words and anyone who cares to find out what web sites are paying for words and phrases can do so by simply using Overtures tattle-tale special pricing tool (http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/). And it couldn’t be easier to use. You simply type in a key word or phrase and the tool returns a list of advertisers using that word and how much they are paying. It even shows you the actual ad.

Oh what a treasure trove of wealth-grabbing results this can be if you know what can be done with that priceless information.

Consider this possibility

Any key word or phrase that’s worth big bucks on Overture is probably worth big bucks on Google as well, maybe even more, right? So try this experiment:

Enter the phrase “SEO Services” without the quotes in the Overture tool (http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/). When I entered that phrase on the day I wrote this article, I was found a company called SEO Inc. that was willing to pay $8.01 per click, followed by SEO Advantage at $8.00, and Online Web Consultants at $6.50. Other bidders appeared below them in the $3.00 range straight on down to some who wouldn’t pay more than a dime per click.

Now, if a company is willing to pay that much money for a click on Overture, it is probably willing to pay that or more on Google. Even if that particular company isn’t advertising on Google, you can be pretty sure that the same key phrase is drawing near the same bid price from other companies who do advertise on Google. So what that means is there is no way that you can possibly afford NOT to have some web pages posted somewhere that are targeted to those sweet-paying words.

All you have to do is use Overture’s pricing tool to find the highest-paying key words that are related to your site and then optimize those words to start pulling similar ads. If all goes to plan, you can perhaps double, triple, or even quadruple your AdSense revenue without needing any increase in traffic or click-through rate.

Your Own Internet Business - Is It Possible?

The other day I picked up a Reader's Digest magazine (a very popular Canadian magazine) and glanced at the cover. The designers of Reader's Digest are very good at catching your attention and making you want to read whatever they have in their magazine.

There on the front I noticed a headline on the left side of the cover page - "Your Hobby and Your Computer = Money."

Even though I already had an Internet business and was quite happy with its progress I was curious to see the contents of this article. I opened up the magazine and read the article within about ten minutes.

It talked about a woman who started selling teddy bears that she made from fur coats on eBay for $200 - $300 a piece. It also talked about someone who started a Blog (short for web log or online journal) and started making money from advertising. It also mentioned a man who started doing Internet consulting and made a small fortune.

The only problem was that after reading the article I had no further information on what I would need to do to start an Internet business.

You see right now this whole "work from home" and "start your own online business" craze has got a lot of people interested. There is a lot of money in Internet businesses. However, most people don't even know where to start, and to others the words "web host", "html", and "Adwords" are from another language.

This is the problem that we find on the Internet - there is an information overload. Everybody is telling you that you can do something but most of the time they will either not tell you how or they will require you to pay for the information. If you have to pay for the information then it is hard to choose who will give you information that you can really act on.

For example, if I told you that you needed to find a niche market and then build a website in order to be successful but then don't tell you how to do either of those things how likely are you to succeed?

You might be able to figure it out, but then again, there are a lot of mistakes that most people (including myself) make when starting that delay any income from being earned. I was in the Internet Marketing business for over two years before I finally started to make money.

Do you want to take that long? Or can you afford to take that long?

The optimal solution instead would be to find someone who has made all the mistakes that you want to avoid making and who has actually made money online. You also don't want to pay hundreds of dollars just to start learning what to do.

I have learned that, as strange as it may sound, the best way to make money online is to give away a lot of free, excellent quality content!

People are hungry for it. Millions of searches are performed every day looking for it. Everybody wants good quality content but nobody seems to be able to find much of it! And what happens when you finally find that gem of a website that gives such great information on what you are looking for? You tell everybody else about it!

You send people emails; you post it on forums; you rave about it on your website (if you have one) or on your blog. Soon others will go based on your recommendations.

What does that mean for the website creator? They get even more traffic, free of charge! Who wouldn't like some free traffic?

The point is, by using the proper formula for building your Internet business you can succeed online, and I can guarantee that!

10 Great Things Not To Do With Google Adsense

There is no question that you can make some good money with Google AdSense, but you’re setting yourself up for disaster if you make any of these Top 10 mistakes!

1. Do not use fake information when opening your Google AdSense account.

Google says that’s a no-no and they will cut your account off and keep all the money you may have earned. Besides, trying to hide your true identity can cause serious problems with the I.R.S. or whoever your tax authority is.

2. Do not hack or modify Google AdSense code other than to change the parameters that Google authorizes you to change.

Any attempt to bypass Google’s built-in algorithms not only poses a danger to the integrity of the network, but it threatens the financial modle that Google operates under. You’re not dealing with some Mom-and-Pop company here, and Google has the legal muscle and deep enough pockets to drag you through every court in the land if you damage their business with your hacking antics.

3. Keep AdSense ads off of your registration, confirmation, and all "thank you" pages.

Don’t ask me why you can’t put your ads there. It makes sense to me that those would be wonderful locations. Google thinks otherwise, however, and doing so is a hanging offense according to their Terms of Service.

4. Do not display AdSense ads and a competitor's ads (like Overture's) on the same page at the same time.

That just makes plain good sense. Google doesn’t demand 100% SITE loyalty from you, but they do insist that their own ads not be cluttered up by offerings from their competitors.

5. Don't "beg for clicks" or provide any incentive for clicking on your Google AdSense ads.

This is a biggie and you see this rule violated all the time. Any of the “get paid to do stuff” sites that put Google ads in the member’s control panels are walking the plank and they don’t even realize it. Even those sites with the polite little messages asking you to “help keep my site running by clicking on our sponsor’s ads” are asking to be cut off if those happen to be Google ads.

6. Never click on the ads running on your own site, even if you are genuinely interested in the product or service and are thinking of buying it!

Nothing screams FRAUD louder than a webmaster running up his or her own click counts by happily clicking on ads fromtheir own site. The Google Gods can track this activity and it won’t be long until you find yourself getting a goodbye note from their fraud team.

7. No misleading labeling

Google is very specific about what text can be placed around their ads. Their Terms of Service state: “Publishers may not label the ads with text other than ‘sponsored links’ or ‘advertisements.’ This includes any text directly above our ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.”

This is to keep visitors from becoming confused and barking up Google’s tree when they clicked on an ad that led to a porn site instead of the recipe site they were expecting to visit.

8. Avoid keyword spamming and other divisive tricks

You may be tempted to buy one of those “generates thousands of key-word rich pages in seconds” programs that are so popular these days but I’ll tell you this: Their days are numbered. Google is wise to such shenanigans and they will be hot on your trail. Other prohibited gimmicks include:

• ”Sneaky” page redirects that send a visitor off to a different site then they were expecting to visit.

• Multiple sites, domains, pages, etc. which have substantially duplicate content.

• Hidden text or links of any type.

• Excessive outbound links on any page. Google recommends no more than 100. I’d keep it way below that.

• And here is a nugget of wisdom straight from Google’s mouth: “Do not participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web as your website may be affected adversely by those links.

9. Don’t advertise anything on Google’s prohibited items list.

It’s a lot shorter lists than PayPal’s or eBay’s, but it includes a lot of the same stuff like hacking/cracking content, porn, illegal drugs, gambling sites, beer or hard alcohol (I guess wine is OK), weapons, and the other usual stuff.

10. And the 10th dumbest thing NOT to do with Google AdSense is to let the other nine things stop you from running an honest site that’s designed to make the most out of this very profitable opportunity that Google offers!

You might have some ideas about how you can incorporate a blog into your marketing mix but don't have a hint about how it can be used in different applications. Don't worry though, if you are still confused about how to do that because you're in for a treat.

We hear of success stories on a daily basis regarding the use of a simple tool like blog, from micro businesses to large corporations. Yet, despite this, the majority of people running businesses still overlook the myriad ways that a blog can be used in their business.

The good news is that, when trying to find out how you can implement a blog as part of your business website, or as a standalone site, most of the time if you look long and hard enough, you will find a way a blog can fit in. After all, a blog is just another website with interesting features like automatic archiving, commenting, easy management and publishing. And what business doesn’t need those features?

To save you time, though, here are a list of common blog application ideas:

1) Content management system (CMS) - Albeit far from a full blown CMS, a blog is more than enough for small to medium size businesses for managing content. Some blog software allow multiple authors, multiple blogs and static pages. This actually means more flexibility as a usable CMS.

2) Company news and updates - Blog software sort blog entries chronologically: the most recent entry appears at the top of the page. Anyone who can write e-mail can post to a company blog, skipping the tedious workflow.

3) Customer support - Manage knowledge base articles on a blog, allow customers to retrieve information easily by using a properly categorized system or search function. Let users ask question, receive feedback and others to read the conversation. I admit, this is scary for some companies as it knocks up against cultures that aren’t used to being so transparent. Actually though, if used correctly, a blog can increase credibility and customer relations to a higher level.

4) Product development and launch - Keep customers updated about the current development of products, build anticipation and buzz, even before product launch. Do you want a bunch of ready to buy readers flocking to your website? Consider using a blog.

5) Press releases - Let interested parties get recent news release and let them subscribe to the site feed.

6) Education based marketing - Prospective customers can learn about a company’s products or services by reading the blog. Answering customers’ concerns on the blog allows other visitors to relate to the problem and immediately develops interest in the product.

7) Focused community - Even a solopreneur can secure a tiny niche and build a sense of community around that niche by regularly posting content related to the topic.

8) Demonstrate expertise - Service professionals use blogs as a tool to build credibility by demonstrating expertise in almost any imaginable topic. The buzz allows them to gain recognition fast.

9) Internal collaboration tool – A blog is a great medium to keep all staff members updated about a company’s happenings, among other things. Who said keeping up with events is impossible? With a blog, that excuse doesn’t exist.

10) Project notes – A blog is more powerful than e-mail for exchanging ideas, sharing resources, and other project related tasks. Other benefits include centralized archives and instant documentation.

It helps if we think of a blog as another server side website publishing tool. Instead of having to design and create static pages, complete with all HTML tags and coding, we only need to write and submit plain text, ideally with simple formatting.

With that said, a blog really can be used for almost all content based website applications. One thing stands out about a blog, it encourages conversation, much like a forum or discussion board does. The difference, however, is only one (or a group of authors) can post to a blog, although all readers can participate in the comment sections of the blog.

A quick tip: Clearly define the purpose of your blog in the planning process. This can help you focus on the right direction and achieve the goal faster. It sounds simple, but many businesses try to accomplish many of the applications above in a single blog, resulting in a confusing and mixed content blog.

It’s better if you concentrate on just two or three purposes at a time, which in turn will help your readers who can easily identify what the blog is about on the first visit. Doing this properly often translates into increased readership and more targeted audience.

Making Money In Adsense In 90 Days…Not! Pt. 1

Contrary to popular belief, a great majority of Adsense websites don't make a lot of money, even though much time and effort goes in to building niche sites, finding traffic for them, and earnest striving to supply great content.

The sad truth is, according to some accounts, 1 in 1300 sites geared toward Adsense will actually make any money.

But what makes those money-making Adsense sites different from the others, and what make those sites earn up to 200-500% more than other Adsense sites on average?

We'll take a elementary beginners' look at some of the factors that make good Adsense sites stand out from bad ones. We'll start from the beginning - the idea process for a site.

You have an idea for a site. It's your passion. It's your love. But, the question lingers in the back of your mind…

"Can I make money with this idea?"

The answer is yes, you probably can. But before you do, the stars have to be aligned, sort to speak. Many before you have rushed in blind with a idea, and a scrap of a plan, only to lose valuable time and money, when with a little patience and research, they could have done much better.

It's not enough to have a passion or love of a topic. In fact, many site owners that make money from Adsense build sites that make money with only a small interest in the actual niche topic itself.

In short, you need a combination of things to make a great niche site. We'll talk about one of them here.

Timing.

As in any business or market, timing is everything.

If you find an Adsense niche market, you need to know one thing before you start: is it a niche that has already run its course?

Or is it a niche that is still not hot enough to parlay on?

Internet marketers say that for a niche to be legitimate, it needs to have at least 25,000 search engine searches attributed to it monthly. Anything less is a waste of time and energy, no matter how much an ad pays per click.

A great research tool is a free Google Top 500 keyword list, generated every two weeks from Axalda.info. It's available here: http://www.axalda.info/topkeywords.html.

To determine correct timing, take a while, and look at the front page content of the first 20 sites that come up in Google's search. Are the sites the same, or close to being the same?

If you find that most of them are saying the same thing, and you find at least a 10 to 30 sites with that same type of content, you have found, in all probability, an oversaturated market.

But some niches have sub niches which are used by different sites, and finding a sub niche can make your site stand out in the crowd. A wedding site, for instance, could have tips on what to wear, a bulletin board, registry links, wedding vows, etc. Some of these sites could concentrate of one more than the other, yet still pull in the correct Adsense niche ads, and traffic because of how they design, word and place their content.

Next time, I'll give you some quick tips on how to deal with the competion, including how o deal with competition in your niche market.

Placing Google adsense ads on your website has to be one of the easiest ways to generate income with your site. Signup is free and all you have to do is put the ads on your site.

But easy does not always mean simple.

Google makes it easy to sign up, generate an ad and put it on your site, however, it's not always so simple designing your site for interest, finding high paying keywords and placing your ads so that they attract maximum clicks.

Here are a few surefire tips that will help draw interest to your site and your ads while helping you get the clicks that will make you money.

1. Build content rich sites

Content rich sites do several things for you. They keep viewers on your site because you are providing information of interest. It's also important to keep the information refreshed periodically with up-to-date and current content. This is not only useful for your viewers, the search engines like it as well.

Sites containing useful content will also help establish you as an expert in your field allowing viewers to respect your opinions and suggestions. But most importantly, good content will keep your viewers coming back to your site. They will bookmark your site more often and notify their friends a lot more.

2. Research and use higher paying keywords.

Develop site pages using topics that contain high paying keywords while keeping the keywords relevant to your topic.

The Overture website has a free 'keywords bid tool' that is excellent for showing you what advertisers are paying for keywords.

For example, using this tool I can see that the keyword 'pet medication' has a maximum bid of $1.51 while the keyword 'pet name' has a maximum bid of $.11. If I were looking for informational pages to add to my pet site, the clear choice here would be to develop a page about pet medications and optimize that page for the keyword 'pet medication'.

3. Place your ads in the upper left hand quarter of your website.

Studies show that people almost always scan your site from the top left working down. Placing a vertical skyscraper ad in that section can help increase your click through rate from 2% to as much as 30% or higher.

4. Don't use horizontal banners or ads.

Google recommends that you use vertical as opposed to horizontal ads. Web surfers see lots of horizontal banners and ads and they almost instantaneously avoid them.

According to Google, wider ad formats such as the large rectangle and inline rectangle also tend to perform quite well. This is probably due to the fact that they are more reader friendly allowing you to read more text at a glance without having to skip a line and return to the left margin every few words.

My experience is that positioning these ads just before or just after your main content can increase your clickthrough rate substantially.

5. Avoid the Dead Zones

Google research has shown that there are zones within your site that won't generate clicks. These areas are the top right of your site, the bottom right-hand corner and the very bottom. Ads in these areas are often ignored. Keep your ads to the upper left, and center or just above or below your primary content.

6. Coordinate the ad colors to match your site colors.

Google adsense offers an array of colors that you can use to display your ads. Choose the two main colors of your site and use those colors for your ad. Keep the URL link of the ad in blue since this is the link color that most viewers are use to. The idea is to blend your ads with your site content so as to invite more clicks.

7. Follow the adsense program policies to the letter.

Google keeps a close eye on how their ads are displayed and they will cancel you immediately if you break the rules. Google adsense is an excellent way to bring in some extra revenue so don't risk losing a good thing.

Adsense blindness is a topic that is becoming more relevant with each passing day based on the enormous success of Google’s Adsense program. The amazing success of the Adsense program has led to what seems like universal adoption of Google’s ad serving technology. The problem is that the ubiquity of Adsense is causing more and more people to unconciously filter Adsense ads as they view websites. The question that this article seeks to answer is what can be done to recapture the revenue that is being lost?

In a word - experiment. Gone are the days when you could throw up some great content and cash in by throwing some Adsense panels above the fold integrated into your text. The mantra of the past couple of years has been blend - blend your Adsense panels into your content. Common wisdom and experience dictated that the closer your Adsense panels resembled your content, the better your click-through ratio. Trick the user and all that…

This strategy will suffer from lower and lower conversion rates on high-value content sites with a high returning visitor rate. You see, the more familiar a reader is with your site and its layout, the easier it is for her to identify your Adsense panels and filter them in favor of your content. This is not a new trend; it is simply the culmination of several factors.

First, Adsense has achieved world domination or something close to it. Adsense is everywhere and its format is static and unchanging. There are only so many panel sizes and each of them is branded plainly with Google’s label. Sure, you can vary colors, borders, and link colors but that darn Google name is still tacked on to the corner of every panel. Second, Internet adoption rates in the English speaking countries is slowing. With less new users coming online each day the pool of Adsense neophytes is shrinking. Every day a larger percentage of users become desensitized to the presence of Adsense and that Google tag on the corner of each panel. Finally, as I previously mentioned, if you provide high-value content your readers will return and the more familiar a user is with your site, the easier it is for her to filter your Adsense ads.

What can be done to turn the tide back in the favor of the humble website owner? Don’t be afraid to experiment with Adsense. While the panels remain relatively static you can vary colors and borders. The key with experimentation is to make subtle changes. Your Adsense panels should continue to blend with your content overall. Well blended content captures new readers every time. What you want to do is create a situation where the user, especially returning readers, stop and process your changes. You want her mind to note that the Adsense panel is different but only slightly. Those borders that everyone matches with the page’s background color can be made to be slightly darker or lighter than the page background color. Nothing too garish mind you - just a slight difference that makes the reader pause and consider what she is being presented with.

The same approach can be applied to text color and link color. Subtle changes can work wonders for improving click-throughs. The idea here is that we have trained the reader’s mind to expect Adsense panels to be blended very deeply into our content. Now, their mind is presented with panels that are standing out just a little more than usual and once they notice this, they will process the Adsense text and hopefully click-through.

Varying the panel type and size you are using can also help to improve your click-through ratio. Every change you make to your site layout causes readers to work at processing the changes this requires attention. This simple act draws the reader’s attention to the panels and hopefully creates a click event. The key to sucessful testing is to make only one change per day so that you can effectively assess what effect the change has. If you make two or more changes you will have no clue which change caused your reader’s behavior to differ from the past. My Adsense resources page listed below has some great pointers concerning how to effectively test changes to your Adsense panels.

My next suggestion will shock and anger many - heresy some will claim but I stand by it nonetheless. There are other options! Adsense isn’t the only game in town. In fact, there are thousands of other fine affiliate programs that you can join and integrate into your content right along with Adsense. Granted, you will have to work a little harder and this is the true evil that Google has perpetrated upon us. Adsense is so easy that we have become lazy in matters of monetization. Break the Google chains that bind you! Do some research. Yes, work and find an affiliate program that matches your niche and promote the hell out of it. I suppose if you are happy with your Adsense earnings you can stick with Google solely but consider the money you are leaving on the table.

Almost any piece of great content can be matched with a suitable affiliate offering. There are literally thousands, perhaps even tens of thousands of affiliate programs available. Find one or two that match your niche and give them the same billing you give Adsense on your website. You might just be surprised. A quarter-per-click is nice when coupled with a conversion rate of 1.5% and some decent traffic but consider a $5 or $10 affiliate commission that only converts ten percent as often. You will quickly discover that adding a program or two has no effect on your Adsense earnings but does provide a welcome new revenue stream!

Optimizing Adsense™ By User Behaviour

If web surfers behaved all alike, if there were strict patterns in users' behaviour, wouldn't all publishers be on a sunny beach right now, with a fancy-colored cocktail, worring not about AdSense™ optimization matters?

Web user's behaviour depends on two main groups of variables: the user-related one and the website-related one.

A) User-related Behavior Variables

Though people react very differently at various stimuli, we can identify some peculiarities specific to web surfers. The behaviour is much like yours. Have you considered watching your own actions while surfing on the web? This might help if you want to improve your site's appeal to readers, especially if you sell something or if you want your visitors to click on your ads.

Several groups of variables that influence users' behaviour can be identified:

* Components of the mental processes involved while searching and browsing on the Internet: attention, awareness, language, mental imagery etc.

* The behavior of websurfers is influenced also by their subjective approach to matters, determined by temperamental characteristics, such as mood, patience and their purpose and degree of interest.

* Also, users act differently varying with how used they are to web surfing.

Let's see how we can tweak our websites to turn these to our advantage (and turn visitors into “clickers”):

1. Mental processes

Attention - The web designer keeps the tools to direct readers' attention. A simple design, without unnecessary loading will prevent the reader from being distracted by unimportant elements. The ads placement must be done strategically, in a place impossible to overlook (recommended in the first paragraph, usually in the upper-left area). Pictures and graphics are considered attention-grabbers and will also be considered when choosing your ads' placement.

Awareness - This is a very debated topic. Opinions differ on readers' ads awareness. I incline to say that blend-in ads work only for very well targeted ads, coming naturally as if belonging to the content. Mental Imagery - Again, a pleasant, uncluttered design, a balanced look of the page contribute to a positive perception of the page from the part of the reader and to a more open state of mind. A professional layout is important. It inspires confidence, people don't want to purchase from a just any backyard business.

2. Subjectiveness

Patience - A golden rule: don't abuse your readers' patience (for they usually don't have one)! Web pages must load quickly, ads must not be placed in readers' way and should be kept to a reasonable number.

Purpose and Mood - Are more related to the topic of your site and the type of content you publish. The idea is that users' purpose and mood can be influenced by copy.

Degree of Interest - Besides relevant, good content, that answers questions, the reader's interest is influenced by involvement and interaction. Keep your reader involved, integrate your ads into an interaction environment: these will work wonders on your CTR.

3. User's Degree of Acquaintace with Web Surfing

Net savvy users have developed certain immunities, such as ad-blindness. These are less likely to click on any ads. Customizing ads for this type of readers means harder work; the result must be ads of high relevance (and remarkable ad texts!), with an aspect as close to the rest of the page as possible, as if they were a natural continuation of your ideas. The ideal would be to go beyond the technicalities, that is finding out what are the most searched for keywords in your area of preoccupations and try to find out why these are popular, try to find a behavioral pattern. This can be achieved by statistics and analysis. Find out some niches in your area and the users' behaviour within them — that is, lists of searches and then see what is it customers want. This will solve your puzzle and give you exact hints towards what works best for your site. Keep in mind: unique visitors are mostly "browsers". Use ad placement and ad customization techniques that apply best for this type of users.

Sites with Regular Visitors - These are mostly forums, blogs and news sections (though news are somewhere in between). If you own sites with many bookmarks, that attract especially repeat visitors, then either you will be very imaginative in customizing your ads and finding new ways to interest your readers into clicking or if not the case, better use CPM based advertising. Brand bulding/reinforcement advertising works better in this case.

2. Site Theme Relates to Visitor's Mood and Purpose

Commercial Sites - Sites selling and promoting products are more suitable for CPC advertising. By their specific, this type of site will attract visitors looking for a specific product/service/business opportunity. Thus, users are more in a buying mood, are looking for a way to spend their money profitably. These are clickers.

Content Sites, Blogs, Forums - Unless you market specific products, your readers will land on your page without the express purpose of buying something. However, you can influence your reader's mood and needs thru witty, sales-directed copywriting. You just need to know some basic things that sell. One is that people are more likely to buy from persons they know, like and trust.

So, what will help you build these? Good content and structure. Especially with content sites, these are fundamental issues to focus on (unlike commercial sites that focus more on products). Good content, profesionally written and formatted for the web, containing information that is of high interest and relevance for the reader, within an easily manageable structure and good targeting on a specific theme are imperatives. On one hand these mean bulding confidence, the first step in selling. On the other hand they will attract well-targeted ads, more likely to interest your reader.

Get Real-time Adsense Channel Stats And Find Out Which Ads Are Being Clicked

If you have multiple sites or multiple directories in your
site for different subjects and you have placed Adsense
codes in your site, I am sure you would like to know:
(a) from which site or directory you are earning the
most / least, (b) which Adsense ads are being
clicked and (c) from which page?

CREATE CHANNELS FOR EACH SITE

To get separate stats for each site / section / directory
/ page with Adsense, you need to create channels for
each one. Create a channel with a relevant name and
generate a code for that channel. Paste that particular
Adsense code to the concerned pages / sites.

GET CHANNEL STATS IN REAL TIME

Google now provides Channel Data in real time. Earlier, it
used to provide data for '2 days before'. Follow the
procedure mentioned below :

1. From 'Date Range' drop down menu, select 'today'.

2. Check the radio button : Group data by 'Channel'.

3. On the right hand panel, check the radio button 'Channel
data'.

4. Click on 'Select ALL' at the bottom of channel list.

5. Click on 'Display Report'.

Now you get the seggregated report for clicks generated for
each channel.

WHICH ADS ARE BEING CLICKED AND
FROM WHICH PAGE?

It is very important to know that which pages / sites are
generating good Adsense revenue and which are not. We can
work upon those poorly performing pages. If we can get to
know about which ads are being clicked, that would make us
feel more informed for many obvious reasons.

Currently Google does not provide this data. But you can still
get it from a very nice and detailed free web stat service, Add
Free Stats.

Add Free Stats provides a very detailed web stats which
satisfies most webmasters. You may open a free account at :
http://www5.addfreestats.com, get the code and paste it at the
bottom of each of your pages.

Make sure that in 'Your Account' section you mark 'Yes' for
'Exit link tracking'.

Now check your stats at Add Free Stats, and you will find a
"A" icon beside the visitors' ip. That means that visitor has
clicked on an Adsense code. Place your mouse over the icon,
and you can see which ad has been clicked.

You can also generate a separate report of pages that have
generated Adsense click. Select 'Exit Links/Adsense' from the
drop down menu marked as 'Pages'. Here you get a folder icon
named Adsense, the number of Adsense clicks etc. Click on
the Adsense folder icon and you get the number of Adsense
clicks on each page and which ads are clicked on that page.
Click on the 'hour glass' icon and you get the CTR, PV too
for each page.

I am no way connected to Add Free Stats. I am just a happy
user. Any webmaster working seriously towards Adsense
earning, must have this tool.

Google Adsense has provided many webmasters and bloggers with a genuine opportunity to make money online. In a nutshell, it's simply a matter of signing up for a Google Adsense account and then posting some code onto your website or blog which causes Google's pay-per-click Adword ads to be displayed.

The ads are "contextual" - thanks to Google's software they reflect the content on the page upon which they are displayed. So if your website is related to travel, the ads will also relate to travel. If you have a website which provides information on new car sales, the ads will be for car sales, and so on.

With very few exceptions (gambling, adult related content, etc.) Google will serve relevant ads for you regardless of your sites main subject area. There's no need to spend time seeking out advertisers and, since the adverts are highly relevant to your main topic area, they should be of interest to your visitors, thereby increasing the number of people who click on them.

And that's the good bit - whenever someone clicks on one of those ads, the advertiser pays Google a fee. Google then splits this fee with the webmaster hosting the ads. This, along with similar ads hosted on Google's search pages, is how Google makes most of its money - it's big business.

Google Adsense has become one of the best ways for small webmasters to earn online, and an entire industry seems to have grown up around it. Here are some techniques of how to earn an Adsense income. I find many people are interested in earning an automatic income from Adsense but don't realize why the clicks aren't happening.

I can see 2 problems they have:

1. Poor display of Adsense ads on their websites which scream "I'm an advertisement". Your visitors will be reluctant to click on them.

2. Poor quality of traffic. Even if you do get traffic, the quality may be poor. If I have no interest in your website once I get there, what's the probability of me clicking on the ads that are related to the topic I am not interested in?

Solution to problem 1.

For displaying Adsense, you should remove the borders and make Adsense seem less like an ad. Also the colour of the Adsense should blend in with your website.

The placement of the Adsense should be placed on the website where the visitors can easily see them. These are the basics of displayig Adsense on your website.

In essence, the content of your website should have keywords based on the Adsense you would want to appear on your website. For example, if you would like ¡°web hosting¡± related Adsense to appear on your webpages, the content should mention the words ¡°web hosting" several times in the content.

However, you must make the content make sense and interesting at the same time. Stuffing the words ¡°web hosting¡± all over the pages with no meaning will give the visitor no interest in reading your content and thus they won't be there long enough to click on the Adsense.

Solution to problem 2.

Once you know how to display Adsense and what content to provide, the next step is getting traffic. This is where most people give up and say ¡°It's impossible to make money with Adsense¡±. Well say goodbye to that thought now.

3. Create websites, which have a lot of information targeted to a particular niche and have Adsense in the middle of the content. If your website is about cars for example, you should have many content related to cars and in the middle of the content, have Adsense on them.

If the users are reading your content and an ad suddenly appears in the middle, then they will take notice. I see click-thru rates particularly high using this technique.

4. Have a google search box on your website. Not many people know this trick but if you have a lot of content, you can place a google search box on your webpage which can show the results of your content pages visitors search for. If they use the google search box to search outside of your website, you still get the Adsense income which they click on outside of your websites. Cool trick.

5. Write articles which are related to your website. At the bottom of your article, your resource box should inform the users of your website. Visitors which click on this link would be very targeted and will spend time to read your content. Your Adsense will of course appear on those webpages. Expect some clicks from these visitors.

The articles should be submitted to as many ezine publishers, article announcement lists and directories as possible. Beware Of Google’s Top Blue Ads

Google, the company that launched the number one search engine and a whole host of new services like Gmail, Google Desktop, Google Earth, and the all new Google Checkout, attracts its users with its great yet free products. Google makes money, and lots of it at that, mostly through targeted advertising. Its advertising model, called Adsense, is proven to be beneficial to both advertisers and users alike and has generated much relevant traffic for Adsense advertisers. However, something about the ads’ format has been causing some eyebrows to rise since they result in accidental click to ads and this in turn raises some questions as to how the accidental clicks affect the advertisers.

When searching in Google for certain keywords or key phrases targeted ads from sponsors appear on the top of the search engine results page (SERP). The targeted ads are clearly set apart from the ordinary search results by its blue background and the label Sponsored Links found on the top right corner of the blue area. They are so labeled so that users not interested in the advertisers’ products or services will not mistakenly click on the ads. However according to an article called Accidentally Clicking on Google’s Top Blue Ads, users still do routinely click on the links by mistake. This usually happens when users click on the blue space on the right of the links themselves. The blue space supposed by many to be a non-clickable area, is actually clickable and would lead the user to the advertiser’s site whose link is nearest to the left of the mouse click.

The accidental clicking of ads has actually been a problem noticed as early as November of last year and has lead to the coining of a new word – Accidense. In November 27th of last year TDavid wrote an article entitled "Accidense?". In his article he noticed that some Google ads had more white space that was clickable compared to others. Because of the larger clickable white space of some ads the chance for users of clicking on certain ads by accident is greater. People soon picked up on the word and started calling the accidental clicking on Google’s AdSense ads, Accidense. Note then that accidense is a phenomenon that happens not only on Google’s SERPs but in any of its service – like Gmail – or any website that has AdSense ads in them.

Effect on Google Users

Accidense is a source of irritation to Google users who have no intention of viewing the ads. Of course in comparison to pop-up ads the irritation AdSense ads bring pale in comparison. However, accidense still retracts from user experience and is mostly unproductive for the user. There may be occasions though wherein the accidental click brings users to advertising sites they are actually interested in. This should happen quite often since AdSense ads are targeted ads so that the chance of the user being interested in its contents is much higher than a user accidentally clicking on the usual static ads. But that would only be the case if the user sticks around long enough to know what the ad is actually about before hitting the back button. And since Internet users, especially search engine users, are usually extremely goal driven then the probability that the user will hit the back button even before the advertisers’ ad has fully loaded is greater than the chance that the user will stick around to find out what he had stumbled on accidentally.

Effect on Google AdSense Affiliates and Advertisers

Accidense may be a nuisance to users but is of greater to concern to advertisers. AdSense is a pay per click advertising program, which means that advertisers have to pay for each click their ads generate whether it was accidental or deliberate. Accidental clicks therefore automatically generate profit for both Google and its affiliate website carrying the ad but most often than not doesn’t translate to profit for the advertisers. People are therefore asking how much accidense really affects advertisers.

Commercial advertisers would do well to track just how much their AdSense campaign is benefiting them not only by the amount of clicks they receive. As pointed out in an article on clicks, “Clicks are not a failsafe method of proving anything. Clicks can be automated. Clicks can be fraudulent.”, and in accidense’ case clicks can be accidental. If clicks are therefore not reliable factor in determining the effectiveness of an ad campaign in a pay per click program, what then would be a good measure of the clicks’ actual productivity? As Scoble pondered in his tech blog advertisers ought to track their ads effectiveness by the amount of time the browser stays on their page. A constant stream of very short term visits – meaning a few seconds – could indicate that accidense is giving them illegitimate traffic and that they could be paying Google more than the ads are actually worth. On the other hand, it could also mean that their website just isn’t appealing enough and needs much improvement. It would also help advertisers track which keywords or key phrases generate more effective or genuine interest in their site and so could remove irrelevant keywords and thus lessen the illegitimate traffic and the expense of paying for the clicks that traffic brings.

Accidental Clicks on your Own Ads

Another issue of concern to advertisers is accidental clicks on their own ads. This is a serious issue since Google terminates AdSense accounts when they have determined that the advertiser clicks on their own ads. This is done to prevent fraud of course. However, accidense does happen and advertisers do click on their own ads especially while working on their AdSense page. When this happens it is best to relax and just let it go if it happens only a few times. Google will most probably not terminate an account for a few clicks. However, if you want to be on the safe side you can email Google and inform them the clicks were accidental. Preventing this form of accidense by making sure that no AdSense ads run in your browser, however, makes more sense than simply trying to avoid clicking on the ads themselves. Getting Started With Google Adsense

It's probably one of the hottest topics out there, and with good reason. Where else can you get paid over and over again for doing something once?

Of course I'm talking about Googles Adsense program, for website publishers who don't mind placing a small bit of code into their sites to show ads in return for a share of the profits.

It's relatively easy to get started with Google Adsense, as all you need to have is a website or blog on which to show the Adsense ads, and a Google Adsense Publishers Account. To get an Adsense account you need to go to www.Google.com/adsense and apply for an account, as long as your website complies with their terms, you will be accepted and be able to log in to create your Adsense ads. If you don't have a website, you can setup a blog for fr.ee at http://www.blogger.com put up some content, and submit this. Blogger is also owned by Google, and some people claim this gives you a better chance of acceptance, whether it does or not you decide for yourself.

For the next part, once you are logged in you need to choose what type of ads to display, link units are just one line links to sites related to your sites keywords, ad units are the blocks of code you see everywhere with a short description, a link and a url for each site advertised. Once you have chosen which ad type to display, you can then choose the size and format of the Adsense box. This is where you must make a decision to ensure it fits in with your site, where you are going to place it.

Be aware that irregular sized and shaped adsense boxes work better than the regular ad sizes, 468x60 is immediately picked up as an ad due to banners being this size for so long online and has a low clickrate, while the 336x280 and 300x250 adsense blocks work much better. There is also some arguments as to whether you should blend the ad into your site by using the color palette Adsense gives you to edit the ads colours to make the colours the same as your site, or to make them stand out by making them a different colour, this will depend on your site, and you can test to see what works best.

After you have setup the format, colour scheme and type of ad, you will get the code to add to your site. Before you go ahead and paste it in, it's a good idea to setup channel tracking. Setup different channels named so that you will know what it is about, and this will enable you to track which ads are working, on which sites by changing them around, and tagging them with different channel ID's. This is one of the most overlooked parts of Adsense, the ability to track your ads through channels affords you the ability to test and tune to get the ideal colours, and placement for your adsense blocks.

Adsense does a good job of finding ads related to your site, and you have no input into what will be shown. Sometimes it gets confused, so you may have to tweak your sites copy to make the keywords more prominent so Adsense can do a better job of targeting your visitors with the ads displayed. Obviously the better the ads target your visitors, the more relevant they will be and the better the clickthrough rate.

As we already said, Adsense is a great way to make some income, and some people are even making a good living from it, it's residual income, fairly easy to setup and low maintenance. The Ten Cardinal Rules Of Blogging

It was easier when I was running EMJ, since I had built EMJ slowly over 25 years so people got to know me better as the company grew. At SYNNEX, I have a whole new group of people who wondered about who I was. Blogging was one way to bridge this gap.

I am a life long learner. Doing SYNNEX threw me into a huge and fast learning curve. Part of me wants to share and inspire people. Blogging was a natural way for me to do this.

From this experience I came up with Jim Estill’s Ten Rules of Blogging:

1. Have a theme. This helps attract readers. It provides a framework around which to blog. I chose Time Leadership as my theme. I have had a long interest in the use of time and published an audio book on time management. I am constantly looking for new time reducing ideas to add to my present material.

2. Blogging obligates you to do more blogging. It is just like writing a newspaper column. If you have a lot of people reading your blog, they expect to see new material. I blog about 5 or 6 days per week and occasionally skip a day, but not often. I now know the pressure writers on deadlines must feel.

3. Blogging is a two-way street. You must respond to the comments you will get. The larger the blog following, the more comments you will get.

4. Blogging takes time. One of my time rules is – if I add something to my schedule that takes time; I need to delete something that takes the same amount of time. For me, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes per day and I write quickly and keep it brief.

5. Be legal. Of course this is obvious but I mean more than just being legal -- be careful of giving away information that could be considered to be business confidential. There have been cases where people have lost their job because the company does not like what has been said in the blog.

6. Keep a file of blog ideas. I keep an electronic file and a paper one. This material gives me something to say when sometimes I am not as inspired to blog. It can also be something that prompts me on writing in my blog. I know I often find myself thinking in terms of what might make good blog material.

7. Provide links from your blog. People who read blogs are used to being able to click on interesting topics and going right to the web page with the information. After all, this is the internet.

8. Only start blogging if you like to write. Even though I like to write, I do often find it to be a bit of a challenge.

9. Be authentic. I think the readers appreciate it. I think it would be hard to have a ghost writer do a blog. It would be difficult to appear real.

10. Be patient. Don’t expect 10,000 readers in the first month. Readership grows over time. I follow my stats, and I notice my weekend readership is about half my readership during the week.

And now that I have written this article – am I less mysterious?

One of the challenges of blogging is to come up with good posts that interest readers and keep them coming back. Sometimes I do not feel like I have good original wisdom. It is presumptuous to think I can have top quality original material all the time.

A second challenge is the time to blog. I run a $1 Billion dollar company so when I decided to blog I knew I needed to figure out how to do it efficiently. My blog is mostly about efficiency and time management; these are topics I study.

These two challenges can be solved with a simple concept. Copy.

Ideas to use when copying are:

1 – attribution. Give the credit together with the link to the original author.

2 – look for something you can add to. Blogs can be synergistic. Take a concept or part of a blog post and expend on it and give your opinions, insights or views. In many cases, this can start a flow of ideas that are enriched from the original post.

3 – You can use either the whole post or most usually just part of it and point people to the original.

4 – I usually ask for permission which has never been denied. After all copying helps the original author and garners them some readership. And of course never copy copy written material without permission (and most blogs are not copy written).

5 – The simplest place to find material to use to copy is by blog surfing although this can mean a lot of irrelevant material to filter. One source of free articles sorted by topic is www.isnare.com.

6 – In many cases the person you copy from will point a link back to you since it is flattering to them. Charles Caleb Colton said “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” (one trick on quotes is to look them up on www.brainyquote.com). These links to you can increase your traffic.

In summary, copying saves time and increases the quality of material on your site. It can even lead to traffic since in many cases you will get link backs from the original site.

They’re popping up everywhere. Your favorite website has one. Your favorite television show has one. Even your teenager has one. Blogs. What are they? Why are they everywhere you look?

Most simply put, blogs are like journals—only, instead of being made of the paper and cardboard kept secret by an even thinner piece of cardboard and a lock your baby brother frequently opened with a paperclip, these journals are online. Why does it seem like everyone has one? Well, because almost everyone does. And there’s good reason. Blogs can be used as journals, both private and public; they can be used as ways for fans to discuss the latest episode of their favorite sitcom; or, they can be used by major companies, especially those that are Internet-based, because unlike the traditional forms of advertising, blogs bring in more traffic.

For business purposes, there are many ways companies use blogs. For example, a company may have several blogs on its website, each one dedicated to something different: customer concerns, product updates, etc. In addition to being helpful to customers and other website visitors, these blogs bring in more traffic to the website, as well. You are allowed to use the AdSense ad units in two different places on each page. You can accomplish this in a couple of different ways. First, you can add the AdSense ad code to the template for your blog. This is done through the control panel for your blog, and some knowledge of HTML is needed. You can use it once at the top and once at the bottom, or once after a few paragraphs of the post, and again after a few more paragraphs.

It takes only a few minutes and is easy to setup your own weblog using the Blogger weblog system. By completing only three simple steps, creating an account, naming your blog and choosing a template, you too can join the thousands of people now blogging on the web. Here's a detailed step-by-step guide to help to get you started using Blogger.

1. Go to Blogger.com and click on the arrow that says “Create Your Blog Now.” You'll be asked to create a username and choose a password that you'll use to access your Blogger account; choose a display name that will be used to sign your posts (e.g., moody mom, bloggerx, etc.) and provide an email address. You'll also be asked to check a box indicating that you accept Blogger's Terms of Service . Then click on “Continue” to go the next screen.

2. On the next screen to name your blog (e.g., The Blog Report, Myrah's Insanity Report, etc.) You can choose any name you wish. After you choose your blog title, you need to choose your URL address. This is the web address that people can click to access your blog. Again, as long as it's not taken, you can choose any address you want. Blogger provides 12 different templates to choose from. Pick your favorite. You can change the look of your blog at a later time by choosing a different Blogger template or using of the hundreds of free templates that are available across the Internet. After you choose your template, click “Continue.” Blogger will begin creating your blog.

4. Once it's created, click on “Start Posting” and write your first post for the world to see. Click on “Publish Post” and Blogger will tell you it is publishing your post. Then click on the “View Blog” tab and you'll find that you're officially a member of the blogging world.

If it wasn't for my blog, I wouldn't make any online sales at all. It's true that I have a "regular" website, my so-called "main website," which I first set up to sell my goods, in this case, men's and women's health products. Why does this happen, you ask? There are almost as many theories as there are SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experts. Many believe that this probation period is not related to the sites themselves, but to their links. It is believed that back link (pure link popularity) credit is placed in a reserve for a period of time (2-4 months) before it is applied to ranking and has an effect. The theory behind this is to combat PR (Page Rank) purchasers from dominating PR from the beginning. It is meant to deter spam websites.

Others believe this alleged filter that is placed on new websites is an illusion. These skeptics argue that the phenomenon merely echoes already existing Google algorithm calculations.

Whatever the reason, I got sandboxed, the rug pulled out from underneath me; shiskobobbed. The high-ranking and sales that I was receiving from my site suddenly plummented.

I was devastated. What's a poor boy to do now?

Desperate, I wrote to a number of online SEO forums, seeking advice from the SEO gurus. Some thought it was amusing and laughed in my face. Others offered advice such as forgetting about Google for awhile and optimizing my site for the other search engines (not a bad idea). Others thought that I should continue adding content, since content is king as far as the search engines are concerned. Still others thought I should try to gain as many quality links as I should, and this would help pull me out of the sandbox (it felt more like quicksand to me.)

I committed to doing all these things, but in the meaintime, what about my website and the products that I was trying to sell, the money I was hoping to make?

I kept hearing about blogs, those personal websites that are published on the Web. As you probably know, blogs contain philosophical reflections, talk about social issues, and opinions about everything under the sun. They are usually presented in journal style with a new entry each day, or almost every day.

Some people have found out that blogs can also be used to sell products. In fact, an entire industry has evolved around commerical blogging and ways to market them. Some of these commerical blogs appear in the same journal style as the most popular blogs, while others do not look any different from a regular commerical website.

At any rate, I decided to check them out. The fact that a number of blog publishers allow you to build and post your comments for free, certainly didn't hurt either.

I studied many of the blogs that are out there on the Internet, particually the ones relating to my niche. The more I read, the more I liked. I was surprised to learn that some of the top websites in my niche were actually blogs. They ranked high on Google and all of the other search engines. And no doupt, they were making sales.

Soon, I had a pretty good idea about how I was going to build my blog. I didn't want to copy the others, I just needed to get an idea of how some enterprising webmasters were creating them.

Within minutes, I had created my blog, published it on the Web, and began posting and tweaking it. I inserted some HTML code to monitor my stats, and continued to work on making it a better blog. I also continued to work on my other websites, so that whenever I do climb out of Google's sandbox, my site will get a good rating.

Not long afterwards, I made my first blog sale!

Elated, I built other blogs. The more lines you have in the water, the better chance you'll catch a fish, right? Each was slightly different than the preceeding one, but I still hawked the same products. All have links back to my "main" website, and all have brought me sales.

I might have been down, but thanks to my new-found knowledge about blogs, I wasn't out.

So, while I'm waiting to climb out of Google's sandbox, I have an ace in the hole and another up my sleeve that is continuing to make sales for me - my blog. Unknowingly, I had stumbled upon one of the best ways to get my products out there before the buying public.

What I had thought was the worse thing to happen turned out to be the best thing. Had Google not sandboxed me, I probably never would have discovered the awesome marketing power of blogs!

But still no matter how appealing a Blog may seem now a days there are still a few people that does not actually get to know what really a Blog is.

Well, a Blog is a type of website that allows you as its owner to easily put in your messages and publish it online. It’s more like a journal or a diary type of site, but what’s interesting is it’s not hidden from others like a normal diary where in only you can write and see it.

A Blog is your personal site and your online diary at the same time. It is a place where you post something and other may post a comment about your post. It’s actually a great site to publish your own opinion and “what you think” thingy.

Now, with all those features how come it’s also a marketing tool? For some it may seem to be a diary or a journal but for some it is more likely to be a place to advertise products and market them.

Why? Because of the ability of Blogs to be crawled easily by search engines and because of the nature of a Blog that makes it look like an e-campus class that consist of a teacher and students. Advertisers, marketers and even programmers can make use of a Blog to post in messages about their products and users could post in their comments too.

You've finally created a blog and you've made your first post. Now how do you get people to actually read what you're blogging about?

Here are some tips on promoting your blog.

1) Quality Content - Interesting content will keep your readership returning. Update your blog regularly.

Googlebot, which is Google's web-crawling robot loves content. The more you update your blog, the more frequent the search engine spiders will return to it.

2) Take part in forums that are related to blogging. Ask other bloggers for their opinion on your blog and take their suggestions to heart.

3) Publish an RSS/Atom/XML feed. If you're using Blogger, you can turn on RSS feed by clicking on settings in your dashboard and then clicking on site feed and make sure that your settings are set to yes.

Use keywords in your title. I suggest subscribing to Word Tracker. Their report of the most popular searches is published each Tuesday and distributed to over 30,000 subscribers.

Technorati.com , is a blog search engine that also lists the top search words. The more targeted your keywords are, the greater your return in search engines will be.

5) Involve yourself in commenting on other blogs. You can gain a loyal readership just by offering feedback to your fellow bloggers. The comment feature allows you to add a link back to your blog as well.

6) Be sure to include your blog address in forum signatures and in your email signature.

7) Submit your blog to directories.

Submit your blog's url to Technorati, Daypop, Blogdex and Popdex.

Be patient, traffic doesn't happen overnight. The best way that I've found to increase traffic is by getting to know people. Spend what free time that you have, reading blogs, leaving feedback and building friendships. Try to leave comments on the blogs that you visit as often as you can. While you are waiting for the traffic to come, just enjoy blogging. You'll be improving your writing in the process.

Eventually you'll build a network of not just readers, but friends and loyal supporters. Blogging is not just about marketing; it's about creating lasting relationships.

I have been a blogger since September 2004 but only began to take it seriously this year. My blogging journey began when I stumbled upon a company owned by Google named Blogger.com that offered free tools to build a website.

In fact Blogger provides you with free several templates which you can customize in addition to a domain name hosted on their server. You can host your blog on your domain if you like to. Here are some benefits I found while blogging:

1) Easy to manage. A blog can be set up by even a novice in no time. All you have to do is post and publish. Blogging can get as simple as that or even more complex.

2) Easy to update. Blogs can be updated weekly or daily instead of sometimes monthly for a static website. Even adding a few paragraphs a day can be done in no time and can be beneficial to your search rankings.

3) Get spidered quickly. Search engine spiders crawl blogs with greater frequency than static webpages. I have had webpages that took over eight months to be indexed in Google where as Yahoo sometimes index my blogs in weeks sometimes days.

4) If you write articles then you can post all of them on your blog in addition to free reprint content that is widely available everwhere. The more content you have the better.

5) You can get your website indexed quicker. An article or a piece of news about your website with an optimize anchor link will send the spiders your way in no time.

6) Sell advertising space. If you have a popular blog then you can create a revenue stream by selling ad space. Blogads is one of several places where you can sell your ad space to major companies.

7) Similar to offering ad space, you can add Adsense to your blog to monetize your content. What I love about Blogger is that once you plug in the Adsense code into your main template, a new page is created and Adsense is automatically displayed when you make a post.

Infrequent Updates

One of the biggest mistakes a blogger can make is to “forget” about posting. The most successful blogs are updated with new posts at least once a day. Some larger blogs are constantly being updated. You should try to create new posts as often as possible. If you miss a day here and there, it will be no big deal. However, if you miss a week or more without posting, you might as well consider the blog dead already. Too Much Advertising
